Embrace Facebook Connect

Von Kai Pohlmann am 10. September 2009

Dear All, when facebook connect was launched we already considered it a great step ahead. Growth numbers of facebook now shows that this cool tool made facebook even more successful than we thought.

To all our clients and potential clients: Think about using the facebook connect API instead of forcing your consumer friends into a new registration. You will not get all data you might want to have for your wonderful databases (thusly, you might consider to offer your users both ways to register). You will probably find more friends who want to engage with your community content, and you can make your community posts visible in the users facebook pages instead of a postbox they perhaps do not use.

Facebook Market Share of Visits within Social Networking Category

Here you find a list of websites already using the connect API.

MĂ€nnerherzen, der Film

Von Andreas Sefzig am 03. September 2009

The NEXT great seduction

Von Kai Pohlmann am 05. Mai 2009

Andrew KeenWow. A real speech from Andrew Keen of The Great Seducation. With NO charts. “Digital Vertigo - Inequality, Anxiety and Isolation in the Social Media Age”. He is talking a new epoche at the end of industrial capitalism. We have the honor to be participants and analysts at the same time.

The most salient characteristic: Institutions are weakening. family, politics, corporations, media. They are replaced by… ?

He also posts the radical individualism. Shit, that topic again. Though no person really wants to be an individual as long as you give him/her the choice to be part of a warm and great group where you can huddle and be an important part. In the middle of the 19th century people thought that industrialism was libaralizing the people. In some respect that was right but it also lead to the situation we are in now.

Now we consider everything 2.0 as a solution to free us. We are currently facing an Oligarchy, ‘The big guys will run the show’. Former industrial protagonists are now talking about personal liberation and innovation; they still behave like those monopolists from last century.

What a great speech!! If you want to find him: He is @hjkeen on twitter and has a profile here at next09.

The NEXT capitalism 2.0

Von Kai Pohlmann am 05. Mai 2009

Umair Haque Umair Haque from Havas Media Lab (UK) gave a speech on capitalism 2.0.

Cool that on such a conference the second keynote speaker is a guy from an ad agency (neither a web 2.0 nor an online agency).

Capitalism is defined as creative distruction. He talks about a zombieconomy. If the big ones struggle the economy struggles. But currently at the same time interaction is exploding. He says that many things we produced up to now are collapsing because the poor are consuming more and more of dumb stuff. We have to reinvent the system where profit is not THE value. Domination is not the success.

He showed many good examples that really provided new value (Apple etc.). The only problem will be that you have to be smart enough to enter the world competition. Otherwise you will not succeed. Umair Haque is fighting the idea of “business is war” because the system does not concentrate on creating value but on fighting competition. This way the society is loosing.
Value is not created. Also he is using the innovator of new marketing: Obama. A politician that is currently teaching marketing about a successful and deeply honest button up communication.

In general a very vain presentation focussing on global market players with very nice presentation effects. But still he is right. The numbers we are using to evaluate value do not fit to measure welfare. Meaning will be one of the big drivers in the future. Ummm… in the NOW.

The NEXT first day

Von Kai Pohlmann am 05. Mai 2009

The day of the keynote speakers at next09.

Jeff JarvisNice speach of Jeff Jarvis, from his own blog Buzzmachine.com. Slides of his speach are on slideshare (12.000 times viewed).

Lots of “bon mots” full of good reason. One of his main Messages: “Do what you do best and link to the rest”. You do not create communities, they already exist. You just have to give them an elegant organization, and they will love you. Masses do not exist. You only look at individuals as masses. Mass communication was just efficient for the distributors not for the audience. Value can be produced by giving away control. The more people start using and changing your solution the more value is produced for the enterprise.
