Wow. A real speech from Andrew Keen of The Great Seducation. With NO charts. “Digital Vertigo - Inequality, Anxiety and Isolation in the Social Media Age”. He is talking a new epoche at the end of industrial capitalism. We have the honor to be participants and analysts at the same time.
The most salient characteristic: Institutions are weakening. family, politics, corporations, media. They are replaced by… ?
He also posts the radical individualism. Shit, that topic again. Though no person really wants to be an individual as long as you give him/her the choice to be part of a warm and great group where you can huddle and be an important part. In the middle of the 19th century people thought that industrialism was libaralizing the people. In some respect that was right but it also lead to the situation we are in now.
Now we consider everything 2.0 as a solution to free us. We are currently facing an Oligarchy, ‘The big guys will run the show’. Former industrial protagonists are now talking about personal liberation and innovation; they still behave like those monopolists from last century.
What a great speech!! If you want to find him: He is @hjkeen on twitter and has a profile here at next09.
